Privacy Policy

Overview

Sikh Wisdom & Nitnem is an offline-first mobile app for daily Sikh-inspired reflections, Nitnem audio, Gurmukhi Paath reading, and personal routine tools. This policy describes how the app handles information on your device and through third-party services.

Information we do not collect directly

• No user account or login — the app does not require registration.
• No cloud synchronization — reflection favorites, category preferences, optional display name, and simple local usage counts stay on your device.
• No upload of listening history — Nitnem playback stays local; the app does not report which Bani you play or how long you listen.
• No collection of religious beliefs — the app does not ask you to enter faith, denomination, or religious identity.
• No sale of personal information — the developer does not sell your personal information.

Information stored locally on your device

The app may store the following using on-device storage (for example SharedPreferences):

• Favorite reflection IDs
• Selected category filter preference
• Optional name for personalized shared reflection cards
• Simple counters related to share/download actions (for local app behaviour)
• Selected reflection card visual theme
• Daily Nitnem routine progress (completion by local calendar day)
• Saved Nitnem playback positions for each Bani
• Seven-day local completion history for routine progress display
• Optional Nitnem reminder settings (enabled/disabled and chosen times)
• Paath reading position (last visible source line per Bani)
• Paath bookmarks (optional, per Bani)
• Paath font-size preference
• Preferred Rehras reading version (Version A / Version B)

This data remains on your device unless you uninstall the app or clear app data. The app does not upload listening history, routine progress, reminder settings, Paath reading position, or bookmarks to the developer’s servers.

Offline content

• Reflections: 400 original Sikh-inspired reflections in Punjabi and English are bundled in the app.
• Nitnem audio: Japji Sahib, Benti Chaupai Sahib, and Rehras Sahib audio files are bundled inside the app and work offline without streaming.
• Paath text: Gurmukhi Paath for Japji Sahib, Benti Chaupai Sahib, and two selectable Rehras Sahib reading versions is bundled for offline reading.
• Audio credits: Source URLs, creator/channel names, and licence notices are shown in the in-app Audio Credits screen.

Advertising (Google Mobile Ads)

The app may display banner advertisements in the Reflections tab, Nitnem home, Paath Reader, and dedicated Nitnem Player when consent permits. Banners are placed outside reflection cards, Paath text, and player controls — not between Gurbani lines. Interstitial ads may appear at limited natural transition points, such as certain Nitnem track changes only (not when opening the reader, turning pages, setting bookmarks, changing font size, opening the player, or using play/pause/restart/seek). Advertising does not interrupt or modify Nitnem audio playback controls such as play, pause, restart, or seek. Banners hide while Audio Credits, Paath Source, or Nitnem Routine & Reminders sheets are open.

During pre-release development, the app may use Google AdMob test ad units. Production AdMob units are registered separately for the published app.

Google Mobile Ads may process advertising and device-related data such as:

• Advertising ID (where available)
• Device identifiers and diagnostics
• IP address and ad interaction data
• Data used for ad delivery, fraud prevention, and measurement

Google’s processing is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Advertising Policies. The developer does not control all data Google collects through the ad SDK.

Daily Nitnem Routine (local only)

The app offers an optional Daily Nitnem Routine to help you follow a simple local schedule using the three bundled Nitnem recordings.

• Routine progress, completion history, saved playback positions, and reminder preferences are stored only on your device
• The app does not upload listening history or routine progress
• No account or cloud synchronization is used for routine data
• Optional local reminders are scheduled on your device when you enable them
• Notification permission (Android 13+) is requested only when you turn on a reminder, not on first app launch
• Tapping a reminder opens the app to the Nitnem section; it does not auto-play audio

Consent and privacy choices (Google User Messaging Platform)

Where required by law (for example in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland), the app may use Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request advertising consent or present privacy choices.

When available, you may access Manage privacy choices from the More screen to review or change consent-related settings supported by Google’s tools.

External links

The Privacy Policy link opens in your device’s browser. External websites have their own privacy practices. The developer is not responsible for third-party sites.

Permissions (Android summary)

The app requests permissions needed for its features and dependencies, including:

• Internet — required for advertisements and consent flows
• Access network state — used by advertising SDK connectivity checks
• Write external storage (API 29 and below only) — legacy scoped write for saving shared reflection images to the gallery on older Android versions
• Post notifications (Android 13+) — requested only when you enable an optional Nitnem routine reminder

The app does not request camera, microphone, contacts, location, exact-alarm, or background-audio permissions for its own features.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 in a manner that knowingly collects personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact the developer.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. The in-app Privacy Policy link points to the published version.
